Manav Sadhna Activity Center

[This project was developed during my collaboration with Yatin Pandya at Footprints EARTH in Ahmedabad, India]

Manav Sadhna is a local
NGO that engages in the service of the underprivileged. It is guided by Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of love, peace, truth, non-violence and compassion.

To address the issue of educating while employing the children from unprivileged background, in 20014 it created an activity center in the middle of the squatter settlement.

This multi-use center was created as a demonstration of the indigenously developed and locally produced building components created by recycling the domestic and municipal waste. Employment and empowering of the urban poor as value addition processes of converting waste into building components create economic opportunities.

The extension of the Activity Center maintains the original building’s philosophy. It is held in the children’s area and consists in two classrooms and a semi-covered courtyard.
