Rocio Conesa Sánchez

Rocio Conesa is an Architect -MArch level- graduated cum laude from the Polytechnic University of Valencia in Spain. Her thesis, directed by Fernando Menis received the Bancaja-UPV Prize in 2011. She also studied at Technical University Berlin and has collaborated with internationally renowned architecture offices in London (Arup Associates), Berlin (gmp Architekten), Madrid and India (Vastu Shilpa).

In 2012 she moved to India to work closely with Dr. Balkrishna Doshi -2018 Pritzker Prize Laureate-. She collaborated for nearly 4 years as a project leader on Doshi’s latest built project, the Revitalisation of UNESCO World Heritage City Ahmedabad’s Historic Urban Core; the Bhadra Precinct.

Rocio has taught Architectural Design at SAL School of Architecture in Ahmedabad and Camilo José Cela University in Madrid. She has been invited to lectures, workshops and juries in different institutions in India and Spain –CEPT University, Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad, National Institute of Design, UNESCO Chair for Earthen Architecture and Sustainable Development, Polytechnic University of Valencia, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute NY, IPSA Rajkot, INDUS University-.

In her practice she is focused on design, dissemination and alternative academic projects with a special interest in creating and strengthening links between India and Spain.

Rocio is co-founder of Architecture with Difference, an organization working on the built environment born with aim of innovating, cultivating and bringing together ideas and actions that are capable of generating a positive difference to society.

In 2018 Rocio joined the Norman Foster Foundation to work in the in-situ upgradation of informal settlements in Odisha, India.
